Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Young Adult Program
WorkSmart has teamed up with other local organizations to help young adults from ages 18-21 pursue their academic and career pathway goals and enter the workforce. As part of the WIA Young Adult Program, you can get connected to things like career advising, tutoring, job readiness and retention training, as well as paid and unpaid work experiences to help prepare you for success in your career pathway.
Available Services and Support
The WIA Young Adults Program can help connect you to employment and career resources right here in the community and beyond. Let us help you as you gear up for post-secondary education or employment with the following services and support made available with funding from the Workforce Investment Act (WIA):
- Career advising to discuss career/academic goals;
- Resume writing and interviewing prep assistance;
- Internship and job shadow opportunities;
- Leads on local job openings and recruitment;
- Identifying available skill training opportunities; and more.
Can I Participate?
WorkSmart’s Young Adult Program is available to individuals between the ages 18 and 21 who live in the counties of: Columbia, Dane, Dodge, Jefferson, Marquette, and Sauk.
You must also be low-income and also must face one or more of the following challenges to successful workforce entry: (1) school dropout; (2) basic literacy skills deficiency; (3) homeless, runaway, or foster child; (4) pregnant or a parent; (5) an offender; or (6) need help completing an educational program or securing and holding a job. Interested individuals under 18 years of age that meet the eligibility criteria for the program should contact a WorkSmart representative for more information.

How Do I Get Started?
Drop in at a WorkSmart Young Adult session near you! We meet with young adults (weekly or monthly) throughout our six-county service area. Check out the list below for times and locations or download the flyer. No need to sign up, just show up. We look forward to meeting you!
